Boston’s own Mr. Sister has scheduled two upcoming performances to showcase her self-described “weird folk”. This Grinding Tapes artist has been collaborating with Faces on Film’s Mike Fiore. Catch them on May 1st at Cantab Lounge in Cambridge and on May 11th at TT’s!

The Acorn: First Ever U.S. Tour

The Acorn kicked off their first ever U.S. tour last Wednesday, and we couldn’t be happier that they’re making a stop in Boston next week. The Canadian six-piece will be playing at Great Scott on May 7 in support of their recently-released Glory Hope Mountain album, which is a semi-biographical retelling of the early life of singer, Rolf Klausener’s mother.

Foals at the Middle East next week

Oxford math rock band Foals have enjoyed a good deal of hype in their home country since they released their debut album, Antidotes last month. Mike Fiore Solo at Great Scott

Faces on Film singer Mike Fiore will be performing solo at Great Scott next Monday. He’ll be playing stripped-down versions of tracks from the forthcoming Faces on Film album, The Troubles. Recording for The Troubles was completed late last year, but the release date is as of yet unannounced.

Tokyo Police Club at the Paradise

Tokyo Police Club have played in Boston five times in the past two years, which is no small thing if you consider that they’re coming down from Canada. Nonetheless, they are about to push that number to six when they hit the stage tomorrow night at The Paradise. The young four-piece will no doubt be playing loads of material from their debut full length, Elephant Shell, which was released yesterday on Saddle Creek.

To get you excited for what we know will be another excellent show, here’s the lead-off track from their first Boston show at Great Scott back in 2006.

Bon Iver took the indie folk community by storm with his originally-self-released debut, For Emma, Forever Ago, which he recorded in an isolated cabin back in 2007. He’s presently touring Europe with such indie heavyweights as Iron & Wine and Jens Lekman.
