The Acorn kicked off their first ever U.S. tour last Wednesday, and we couldn’t be happier that they’re making a stop in Boston next week. The Canadian six-piece will be playing at Great Scott on May 7 in support of their recently-released Glory Hope Mountain album, which is a semi-biographical retelling of the early life of singer, Rolf Klausener’s mother.
Oxford math rock band Foals have enjoyed a good deal of hype in their home country since they released their debut album, Antidotes last month. The album soared to #3 on the U.K. charts, but Americans still have a chance to catch this hot band in an intimate setting. Don’t miss them when they play at The Middle East downstairs on May 6th!
Tokyo Police Club have played in Boston five times in the past two years, which is no small thing if you consider that they’re coming down from Canada. Nonetheless, they are about to push that number to six when they hit the stage tomorrow night at The Paradise. The young four-piece will no doubt be playing loads of material from their debut full length, Elephant Shell, which was released yesterday on Saddle Creek.
To get you excited for what we know will be another excellent show, here’s the lead-off track from their first Boston show at Great Scott back in 2006.
Don’t miss local indie hero Jason Anderson when he performs live at Somerville Arts this upcoming Saturday!
Also, make sure to get there early because opening for Jason is Vermont twee-popper and Grinding Tapes artist, Hello Shark. He’ll be playing his delightful brand of K-Records-inspired folk about bugs, teeth, and bubble guns.
Constellation Records’ A Silver Mt. Zion are set to embark on their second ever U.S. tour next month. Don’t miss them when they perform their politically-charged neo-classical-post-rock to a sardine-packed Middle East Downstairs on May 17th.

As part of two larger international tours, Canadian critical darlings, Rock Plaza Central and Plants and Animals are teaming up for four US shows this May. You can catch both of these fantastic bands as their independent tours converge on May 18th at TT the Bear’s Place.
Rock Plaza Central burst onto the scene in 2006 with their independently-released and robotic-equine-themed debut, Are We Not Horses, which garnered lazy but understandable comparisons to Neutral Milk Hotel and justifiably topped numerous end-of-year lists.
Plants and Animals are also enjoying a significant amount of recent hype centering around their excellent debut, Parc Avenue.
The Points North (formerly S Joe Hazelwood) are well known in the Boston area for their delicately elegant take on traditionally-routed indie folk. The newly renamed three-piece are slated start recording their sophomore release on analog tape this spring. Don’t miss these Grinding Tapes mainstays when they perform at The Q in Worcester, MA this Saturday.
Everyone’s favorite colonial-era prog-rock front man will be performing solo in Somerville tonight as part of his third solo US tour. If this is anything like his previous visits, Colin Meloy will perform stripped-down Decemberists tracks alongside covers and songs from other side projects at the intimate Somerville Theatre.
